Volunteer Appreciation Week 2025
April 22, 2025
This week is national Volunteer Appreciation Week! Volunteers play a huge role in the success of our organization, and we want to recognize their accomplishments and hard work.
Last year, more than 2,500 volunteers contributed 16,500 hours in support of our mission. More than 80% of our construction work is completed by volunteers. Volunteer labor is one of the primary ways we are able to keep our homes affordable to buyers. This is possible because individuals and organizations volunteer their time, and the homeowners themselves also complete sweat equity hours during their homeownership journey.
Our volunteers contribute to every step of the home build process including framing, raising walls, painting, landscaping, and putting the finishing touches on new homes. We have specialized volunteer groups such as our siding ‘geezers’ and many regulars who join us on site every week. Even younger volunteers contribute to our mission through Youth Builds, during which adolescents make gifts for new homeowners. While some may have previous construction experience, others are using a hammer for the first time. No matter their background, we are proud to host so many volunteers each year off all ages and experience.
Thank you so much to every one of you who has continued to volunteer with us over the years! Your dedication and support is key to our success. Volunteers help us bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Thank you for helping us build a stronger Durham through affordable homeownership.
